KUCHING 21 May 2024, Tuesday - In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, a stakeholder engagement session was held on Monday at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching to discuss the recently enforced Environment (Reduction of Greenhouse Gases) Ordinance, 2023. 

The event aimed to facilitate the registration of business entities engaged in scheduled economic sectors with the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak.

Effective March 1, 2024, the ordinance mandates that all relevant stakeholders register with the NREB. 

The session provided crucial guidelines and support to ensure compliance with the new regulations.

The session commenced with opening remarks by Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak, Abang Ahmad Abg Morni.

Also present to provide advice and conduct a sharing session was the Controller of Environmental Quality Sarawak, Jack Liam.

The meeting was an important platform for businesses and individuals to understand the implications of the ordinance and the procedures for registration.

It also served as an opportunity for stakeholders to engage with regulatory authorities and clarify any concerns regarding the implementation of the ordinance.

A total of about 60 participants from the energy and oil and gas sectors participated in the session.

Participants were provided with the guidelines for registration, which outlined the necessary steps and documentation required for compliance.

The successful engagement session marks a proactive step by Sarawak in its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote environmental stewardship among its economic sectors. -UKASnews
