KUCHING, 19 January 2024 - A total of 30 delegations from the Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) led by Environmental Quality Controller Jack Liam made a technical visit to CHITOSE Carbon Capture Central Sarawak and ZHA Environmental Sdn Bhd.

Also participating in the visit was Deputy Controller Paul Bond with the Sabah Environmental Protection Department (EPD), led by its Director, Vitalis J. Moduying and Deputy Director Daisy Aloysius.

During the visit, the participants got an understanding from the General Manager of Research and Development (R&D) at Sarawak Energy Dr. Ng Sik Muk and Senior Manager, Tech and Biz at CHITOSE Group Ryo Iko.

For the record, the CHITOSE Carbon Capture Central (C4) was developed in Sarawak through a collaboration between Sarawak Energy Berhad, the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre and the CHITOSE Group.

The delegates gained an in-depth understanding of the important role this microalgae production facility plays in advancing carbon capture, contributing to global initiatives against climate change and promoting a sustainable green economy in Sarawak.

After the morning session, the delegation continued the afternoon tour at ZHA Environmental Sdn. Bhd where they continue to explore environmental initiatives and sustainability practices especially in recycling used tires.

To note, ZHA Environmental Sdn Bhd plays an important role in collecting and recycling used tires in the state of Sarawak.

The visit aims to provide valuable insight into the benefits of environmental projects carried out, offering delegations an interest in sustainable practices, including the transformation of used tires into a valuable resource.

In a briefing led by ZHA Chief Executive Officer Bernard Yong, the delegation gained a comprehensive understanding of operational aspects including the sharing of valuable perspectives from Wilfred Winson and Gloria Chai.

After the session, the delegates were then guided on a site visit around the area to gain hands-on experience of ZHA’s sustainable practices in practice. – UKASnews
