NREB at Curtin Day Camp

MIRI: The NREB organised an environmental education activities in conjunction with day camp held at Curtin University, Sarawak Campus on 18th January 2014 (Saturday).

The programme, named E.A.R.T.H (Enhance Awareness, Raising The Hope) Project 2013/2014 was organised by Association International des Etudiants en Science Economiques et Commerciales( AIESEC) of Curtin University Sarawak.

This project aims at creating awareness among students on the importance of waste management and encouraging them to practice 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) as a way of life.

During the program, NREB officer, Encik Timohty Abet, delivered a talks on solid waste management and 3R. The title of the talk was “Solid Waste Management: Our Responsibility” The content of this talk includes sharing of current issues related to waste management, waste segregation practices and motivation on how students can make a change in the way waste is currently treated and managed.

After the talk, students participated in environmental games and were tested on their newly-acquired environmental understanding trough a quiz challenge.

A total of 32 students from SMK St. Columba (Kelab PALS member), SMK Dato Permaisuri (Kelab PALS member), and Cahaya Educational and Training Academy (CETA) successfully attended the day camp. They were accompanied by their teacher.

The NREB is actively organise and carry out environmental education programme for school children and community. This is part of the Board’s effort to promote environmental citizenship and positive environmental behaviour among the people in Sarawak.
